The concept of Concentricity evolves from the making process of the first project: lamp, which is inspired by Isamu Noguchi’s classic floor lamp series. The five projects each addresses concentricity with some extent of formal and logical consistency, but also derives differently from the others. The lamp can be seen as pure geometry with lightness, while the vase are somewhat distorted from top to bottom to form elegant curves along the surface; The table and stool due to their complexity of the joint between structure and operating surface (and different materials), are more precisely under control of the modeling and shop drawing, but also allow for some tolerance for fabrication and assembly. The plate as a relief from the heaviness and complexity of table and stools, is also light and elegant by milling the pine panel to thin bloosom like surfaces.
Concentric geometry like triangle, hexagon, circle are used through out the entire project. They’re overlaid, twisted depending on the aesthetic and the pragmatics: how they look and work.
