This project seeks to create a new prototype for future presidential library through study of domestic architecture. Program and circulation of presidential library is studied through precedent study of the Carter Presidential Library. After that two master works of domestic architecture are studied in terms of spatial configuration (Goldenberg House_Louis Kahn, and David Wright House_F.L.Wright).
Through simplification, transformation, hybridization and distortion of the two domestic architecture prototypes, a presidential library prototype is created as a donut model with its interior and exterior view towards neighborhoods. Its volume is reduced to 2 levels above ground and 1 level underground, presenting proper scale to fit in urban context. Served spaces are placed in periphery of the donut, with servant spaces in between.
The whole building performs as a bridge spanning Chicago River, connecting riverside through both interior and exterior levels. Roof spaces are designed to provide city with public spaces.
